THE PLACELESS PLACE (2016)

Hither the Space-Rider traverses silently through a deserted urban landscape, eventually arriving at Times Square in New York City. Surrounded by dense crowds of people and the flickering universe of images and video screens, the seemingly looping movement of the Space-Rider comes to a halt when she plants her flag on Times Square. Back on her horse, the Space-Rider has an encounter with a scene from the first Space-Rider film ” The Map is not the Territory” on one of the digital monitors. Through this loophole the figure returns to a deserted, pre-civilized environment. The Space-Rider re-contextualizes the capitalist iconography of Times Square and the contrast between humans and her evokes a disconcerting feeling of isolation. The feeling of being alien disappears with her return to the extraterrestrial environment of the first Space-Rider video and the disappearance of people from the scene.
